Charity News

Inspired by our discussions about the Charities request for donations I wrote a rather long rambling piece on my understanding of the history of Sing for Your Lungs. Too long for a newsletter. So here are my more focused thoughts on donations.

I am approaching their request as a general request for donations to the Charity. Their balance between income and expenditure was in debit to the tune of over £30,000. This is a situation they have to resolve. Remember they do not get any financial support from the Trust.  We have been told they are not able to account for donations that are aimed at specific projects; ie there are no ring fenced donations for SFYL; the charity is unable to say how much has been donated by SFYL members. That said I would say the charity staff have a duty to raise as many donations as possible. So I believe it is a reasonable request that we, as recipients of charity funding, donate to the charity where we can and it is well known that regular payments are one of the best ways to do this. The project of SFYL remains free to participants and no one is obliged to contribute from their own pocket. We are all beneficiaries of all donations made.
